2010 Lexus ES350 Mushy Transmission

Just bought this car used.  The shifting is very mushy, especially when
downshifting and getting on the accelerator. Is this normal for this car?  Is there
a solution to improve shifting?  Like an old school shift kit?

If you have the option of using the transmission sport mode you should try it. A fluid change is also a good idea.
