rotors warped

Asked by saturn2006 Feb 10, 2009 at 08:44 AM about the 2006 Saturn VUE Base

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The front rotors on my 2006 Vue has been warped twice, 16,000 miles and 36,000.  Is this normal? The dealership said it's because the rotors had a hot spot and got wet or it's because of the stop and go traffic.  This is my 3rd Saturn, but I will think twice on my next car.

Not normal but common on 06 vue. I had the same problem with warping soon after replacing tires. I have heard of another cause but cannot confirm that overtorquing or inproper installation of lug nuts can cause warping of rotors which I think is the case for me although I got two years, approx. 30,000 miles on rotors and pads, it was time for a break job anyway. replaced with quality rotors and pads and all is well. Replaced struts at 50,000, median shaft which was causing a clunk in front suspension (luckily under warrenty). Recently developed a grinding noise after brakes heat up but doesn't affect braking performance. Guess what I am doing this weekend. 06 vue w/93000 miles

no this is not normal, never heard of a hot spot on them, getting them wet wont warp them nor stop and go traffic.you can buy new ones that are warped, best thing is to have them turned, but not at a dealer, let your mechanic turn them.

Sometimes the caliper gets sticky and and keeps pressure on the rotor causing vibration when braking and the car pulling to the side the of the bad caliper.
