06 Vue Revving up, but not shifting

Asked by Truaxj Jan 18, 2017 at 04:09 PM about the 2006 Saturn VUE V6 AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2006 Saturn Vue, AWD, V6 with 160k on it.  Recently the transmission
has been acting funny.  Between 30-45 the engine will rev up, as if the
transmission is going to shift, but it doesn't shift.  If I accelerate through,
beyond 45, it shifts and runs fine.  I'm thinking it might be a shift sensor, but
wanted some advice before I started disassembling the car.
Thanks.

There was a recall on this vehicle for this very reason I believe, but I think the deadline to bring it in has passed. GM did honor it even after Saturn went belly up. The customer service person said there was a chance they may have to replace the torque converter (no idea what this is), but they wound up only resetting the computer. Problem still exists, though much milder.

(cont'd) .. so I took it back again. The service person said that, according to the mechanic, the RPMs have to run high during those speeds, for a "margin of error"..
