Starter not turning over, battery apparently good.

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

When the ignition key is turned, the starter doesn't turnover (and makes no
sound at all)... the battery is in apparent good condition, it was bought new
about a couple years ago, and the car has not been used since the end of
December 2017…
• The battery was dead by last April 2018,

• It was recharged and the engine was warmed up,

• A month later it had died again, I recharged it with a 2 and 10 amp manual
charger and the starter didn’t work that time…

• Now on Wednesday June 13th we reharged the battery again with an
Automatic 10 amp Charger that automatically shuts-down meaning the
battery is
fully charged but we still get nothing out of the starter.

Seems obvious to me  the ignition system has a problem that makes the
current
not reach the starter solenoid… there is an engine oil leak that has covered
the
starter and solenoid with greasy dirt… I’m not an electrical expert but that
tells
me the power that should make the solenoid engage may go to ground... is
that
possible? The thick gauge positive cable that goes from the battery to the
starter
motor, is also covered with greasy dirt… could that be draining the battery?

The greasy dirt will obviously have to be removed but the car is on a nice
custom floor and it will have to be moved (driven) to another location for
cleaning, so I wonder if you folks could confirm these two questions... any
further advice would be much appreciated. Thanks for your kind assistance.

This may be Antitheft security system related. Look for a light on the dash that says SECURITY when this happens. When this system fails, it can cut off the ability for the starter to crank. Sitting for so long on dead battery could have caused this as the BCM may have "forgotten" the key. Google NEWROCKIES. They make a unit to bypass this system. I've used it several times. Still driving a car with one in it.

Hey thanks for the answer.. a few more questions if you don't mind. If a forgotten key code should be the case, what would happen if I add a manual switch that takes power from the battery to power the solenoid bypassing the Ignition Control Module. I'm sure direct power will crank the engine but... would it start the engine?.. The Newrockies page says there are three components that need the key code, but my guess is that if the ICM detects the engine cranking it may be fooled into "thinking" the key code has been accepted. What do you think? One more cause for the no cranking starter is said to be a starter relay fuse or neutral safety switch. They say the fuse if blown will cut-off power to the solenoid. On the relay, they advice to jump the starter relay pins 30 abd 87 and if it cranks, to replace the relay. The car has had a Anti-theft issue for some time.. the dash light had to stop blinking or go off (it’s a relative’s car so aint sure which) before the starter could crank… but now neither works. Other tips are to reset or bypass the security system so I thought I’d ask what would be your impression on those options. I'm having the same problem...but one time earlier it wouldn't start or do.anynthing.. And I changed the bcm fuse it's the little ones. And I think it's the number 1 fuse. BCM. Look under Meath the fuse and relay box cover. And find the location. Of the BCM fuse and replace. It with a 30 amp. Little fuse is what they are and .. But when I changed it that one time it cranked right up and cranked and started. With no problem. .. But this time I have a Little different situation. I.chamge the motor in it and now it's not starting at all... But I'll figure it out sooner or later.. But it can be a aggregating and I'll tell you. I've cursed this car out a thousand times I bet but I learned alot about these cars in the past.. And ill give you.so.e advice if you. Care to hear it...everybody I've talked to about this had said it's the. The manufacture thats doing this cause they want you to bring it in to them and let them five it for you and charge you. More than it's worth... But. I just hung in their with it and it finnally started up again. .. But their funny like that come to.es.. But I wish you luck..
