I am a 19 year old who wants to get a project car, Neighbor is selling X19

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I was hoping to get some opinions on whether this car would be worth
purchasing.
It has 86k miles, almost no rust and he's only selling it for 2 grand. It has new
tires brakes and a recent paint job.
Would trying to find parts for it be too difficult, or do you think it would be
worth it?

I would be tempted to buy that one. If it runs good you are probably getting a good buy. Here is one parts suppliers but there are others --- http://midwest-bayless.com/
Ask your neighbor where he gets his parts.
Having a neighbor who knows how to work on it is also an advantage.
Are you mechanically inclined? 2000$ for a clean running X1/9 is a fair price. There is a lot of support from xweb x1/9 forum. You said you were looking for a project, so you are probably willing to deal with some repairs. Car is not expensive to maintain. It will probably never get collectible value, but on the other hand, you can find parts cars for cheap. Run away from rusty cars. A lot of them ended-up in junkyard because of timing belt failure. Owners paid to get the head rebuild (1300cc were not interference free, 1500 are ) but could'nt get the timing right and let the car sits for years... Master cylinders (clutch and brakes) are also a pain in the ass to change. But if you got some determination, once the problems are solved they could become show Queens or daily driver, depending on what you are looking for (and ready to invest!).
I realize that this is a year old question, but, if you bought it, you would have found that an x1/9 is one of the most fun and affordable cars you can own. Working on them has it's challenges, but, parts can be found easily on ebay and some Fiat sites in the US and worldwide. I've had two of these, and the one I currently own I've had since 2004. It's an 86, and I have driven it across the country twice. I would not hesitate to recommend a car with an almost zero center of gravity that goes into turns with no brake needed. It's not a perfect car, but, it's not incredibly difficult to maintain. They are small though. What a great ride. Anyone can drive a Toyota or Ford. They are not bad, but, really, since you were thinking about an X1/9, do you really want to look like everyone else?
If you disai to pass on fiat I am look for one my tel 917 5964331 thank you
