remote starter
I have a 1964 Mercury Comet Sedan 4 door 6 cylinder 200 cu inch with an automatic
transmission. I'd like to know if a remote starter can anyway be installed on this car. It
gets cold up here in the north, and would be a great asset.

says it's for GM, but rest assured it will work on Mercuries too~
we had those plug-in oil sticks too...leave 'em on all night to have a warm engine to start with...."blankets" for the car battery too....sheesh, you're bringing up memories from thirty years ago~ Kat's engine heater was one that'd go into the coolant loop....I still can remember the ice piranhas..finally gave up to where every day is a beautiful sunny day....plenty of room out here in Clearlake...bargain real estate...NOT the San Fransisco bay area...but 2 1/2 hours north~

Problem with those items, is on a 64 the choke/fast idle needs to be set by depressing the gas pedal. So unless you have an actuator like for cruise control, the car may start, but it will start at normal idle and just die almost instantly.
Better to have a block heater installed. Not expensive, and not difficult. Plug the car in, and you will have heat immediately you start the car. Install an interior heater, and you will get into a warmed up car. As a guide a block heater needs to run about 1 hour per cylinder before you want to start it. So, for an 8 a.m. departure, set the timer for 2 a.m., and you will have a warm engine and warm car to get into. REMEMBER that the transmission and differential will still be cold, and drive accordingly.
