The 2005 civic hybrid does not have a separate alternator for the 12 volt system It uses converted electricity from the electric motor to charge the starting battery and run 12 volt components. Also if the Hybrid electrical system fails or is compromised the vehicle will not run. A failed Hybrid battery could catch fire if the electric motor sends it current. So the designers built in a fail safe by not allowing the car to opperates with a bad battery.
