MY 2003 PT only has 51,000 on it. It had been over heating and it died. MY mechanic told me the head gasket blew and I need a new engine. Is it worth it to put 1500+ into the car?

he is probably right about the head gasket, but get a second opinion on whether or not you need a new engine. Head gaskets can be fixed, but maybe you had extensive damage to your engine. BTW, if you can get it going again for 1500 bucks, you better do it. Expensive repairs on cars over 10 years old are a hard one. things to consider... what is the book value of the car in good running condition? If you are really pushing that value with the repair, then maybe it isn't worth it, but your car has low miles, i would check it out. The car not running is probably only worth a few hundred in non running condition. also have to decide if you like the thing and how long will you keep it after the repair.
Is there white smoke from the exhaust? Does the oil have coolant mixed in with it? When I have an overheating engine, I first check the thermostat, fan clutch, and water pump. If those are ok, then it's something more serious.
No white smoke out tail pipe. No oil in water. No water in the oil. Fan is electric and running. No leaks dripping anywhere either. But the water is going somewhere... Just not sure where. Any answers?
