Stuck in 4wd

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2003 dodge dakota that is stuck in 4wd. It
switches out of 4lo to  4hi without a problem but
when I switch it to 2wd the indication light
indicates its in 2wd but it's actually in 4 4hi. It was
suggested to get a new actuator (TCASE MOTOR)
but I'm still having the same issue. Any ideas?

Are you driving the truck on dry pavement in 4WD? If so DON'T! Try moving the truck back and forth a little in a straight line and then stop and attempt to shift again. It may take several tries.

I have been trying that for days. Any chance it could just be a bad switch? The indication light stays on 4lo when I'm in 4lo, when I switch to 4hi you can hear it switch into 4hi but the indication light blinks on 4wd but then goes back to 4lo (although it's actually in 4wd 4hi) when I go from 4lo to 2wd the light stays on 2wd but it's actually in 4wd hi.

2005 dodge dakota 4.7, switches to 4x4 and gets stuck in 4x4 randomly, just clean the ground cables where it touches the body. There 3 of them on mine, fixed it. Bad grounds cause a lot wierd problems on vehicles, good luck.

Guru Gosh I hope you read this !! Or anyone !! My Dodge Dakota 2006 is doing the same thing the truck service 4 wheel drive light comes on and then it shifts into four-wheel drive low on its own and is stuck in 4 wheel drive low till I park it, then it switches back on its own 15 minutes or one day later you can hear it clicking and switching even if the vehicle has been turned off for quite some time what could be causing this problem anything other than what Guru said ?? I don't have a lot of money for repairs and need to really get it right the first time. Thanks
