when starting my chevy aveo I hear a whinning and thumping noise coming from the area near the timing belt.what is the cause and how can I fix it?

you're going to have to pull the timing cover off under which you'll find a loose/worn tensioner and spring...frayed belt or delaminating belt~

should really have given this belt some consideration by 40,000 miles...hopefully you can catch this one before engine damage occurs~
