Coolant temp sensor will not lock the torque converter until proper engine temp is acheived, other possibilities.......... Watch the temp guage once you get driving does it go all the way to c on the guage? If so thermostat. is the check engine light on? What is the code? When was the fluid in the Transmission changed? And what is the milage?

as was already asked do you have a check engine light on, or check for codes? could be a possible bad torque converter lockup solenoid, or a short in the wire going to it. also check the connector on the solenoid to see if it is clean & tight.
