see if there's a tang by the vibration damper at the front of the motor , a timing light will tell you if it's off , I think with newer vehicles the timing and advance are done by the computer and turning the distributor will only confuse the computer on signals from crank and cam sensors , your experience may differ

It doesn't have a distributor we changed the timing chain the marks are lined up but they could be out giving the sizes.

so it doesn't run well ? After lining up the marks on the sprockets it should be given a few revolutions to make sure .

Get a service manual such as Haynes or Chilton at your local auto parts store and it should tell you how to set the timing.

Timing is accomplished as part of the replacement of the chain process and many steps need to be taken while apart. Once TDC is achieved and marks on balance shaft lined up, the cam cannot move. There are special tools used for this purpose. If anything is wrong, timing cannot be achieved once the engine is completely assembled. I check the net and there are numerous videos of the proper replacement procedure and timing process. Check them out and ensure you did not forget anything. But if you are sure the timing is out, get out the wrenches and start taking it apart. Valve covers and front engine cover removal should be enough to redo the process.
