All the marks need to be aligned perfectly. You will start with Number 1 on top dead center. From there I suggest going to You Tube and watch a video to see if you can do this. It is quite involved.
You have to be very careful timing an overhead cam Ford. One little wrong move and you will be deep in bent valve city. See if you can find someone to assist you. Also I am pretty sure then engine has to come out because there is another chain at the back of the passenger side cylinder head.
Best watch a video on the net on the procedure to convince you it would be better to bring the engine to a mechanic with the proper tools. Watched my mechanic replace front and rear chains on a 2003 4.0 and it was involved. He had special wrenches to hold gears and sprockets in place while other parts were installed. He said it is doable with simple wrenches but a real pain to get everything EXACYLY right. The engine has to come out of the car to replace the rear chain and guides. May as well change those as well, as they are Teflon coated and wear.
