2000ford ranger 3.0 motor swap

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
Can I take a 3.0 motor out of a 2000
ford ranger 4x4 truck and put it into
a 2000 ford ranger 2wd ? Both
trucks had the 3.0 v6 motor but the
2wd has a blown motor. The first
problem I found was the motor
mounts were different...

Can you exchange the motor mounts or is the motor mount location on the block different?

Yes,i was able to change the mounts...but the motor is still about an inch off from mounting up to transmission. :(
I can't really imagine that the motor mount locations on the engine blocks are different. Is it possible that you reversed the motor mounts or that there is an issue with the transmission mount?

Wondering what other differences I will come across....it might be the flywheel holding me up now. Gonna put the 2wd fly wheel on it..hopefully that works

It wasn't the location that was different . The motor mount brackets were different.
Do you have a clutch alignment tool? If the clutch is off a little then the pilot shaft on the transmission can't go all the way in.

I'm a back yard mechanic and haven't swapped motors in 20 years, I'll have to look into that .thanks
It is a plastic duplicate of the transmission input shaft and it will make your job sooooo much easier.

What ended up being the problem? I have an 02 ranger with torsion bar front end. I'm putting the 3.0 into a coil spring frame that had a 4 cyl. I need to know if the torsion bar motor mounts will fit on the coil spring frame please!
