I'm going to guess leaking fuel injector if its black smoking or smelling like gas.
Leaking injector or the fuel pressure regulator diaphragm has ruptured. Super easy to check, just pull the vacuum hose off the regulator while its running and see if fuel dumps out. Saw it before on an Olds 2.3L quad 4.
