Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 1989 olds cutlass ciera 3.3L V6 I
have replaced the fuel pump, filter, injector,
spark plugs, wires, new starter. It tries to
start but just won’t crank over, I have
sprayed starting fluid in the throttle body
and that doesn’t work. I’m lost and I have
no idea as to why it won’t start, I tested the
ignition control module but couldn’t get a
reading on it I also tried checking for
trouble codes but nothing showed up not
even the normal operation code 12. If you
have any suggestions I’d really appreciate
it. Thanks

Make sure battery has a full charge and battery connections good. Have a helper crank it while you visually check for spark at the plugs. If spark everywhere, use a gage and check proper fuel pressure and fuel injector pulse. Does the mil on the dash work? If not, you can't get any codes. You might be able to hook up a scanner that shows live engine data to see if system is running rich or lean and then go from there. You can check temp with scanner, you can check some things even if it won't start. After a little cranking, you can pull spark plugs, see if they are bone dry or wet with fuel? To see if computer is awake, you can turn on the key, then check any sensor that uses a ref voltage. If no ref voltage, have to check voltage and ground for computer.

The car sounds like it’s gonna crank over but just doesn’t. I have a battery in there and I’ve used it to start it a couple times. When I try to start it it sounds good but when I push on the accelerator it has a hollow sound so it may not be getting fuel. I’m gonna get a fuel pressure tester and test the fuel pressure. I also found 4-5 connectors behind the obd1 port that weren’t connected. There is also another connector near the alternator that isn’t plugged into anything and I don’t know what it goes to. When you look at the plug it has 2 L shapes where it plugs onto something.
