1999 Ford Ranger wont start, battery wont turn off.

I went to start it the other day and the lights/radio turned on fine, but there was
nothing from the engine.  No crank, no clicking. When I take the key out and
open the door the lights/radio dont turn back off.  Now there seems to be less
resistance to turn the key in the ignition until you go to turn it over. It used to
click to turn the lights on but doesnt anymore.
