What causes a fuel smell in my super convertible

Asked by tschuber May 07, 2014 at 08:06 PM about the 1974 Volkswagen Super Beetle

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

74 Super Bettle convertible.  Somebody changed to a carbureted engine and the fuel vent system has been partially removed.  There is a strong fuel smell over 1/2 tank & when turning sharp corners.  Where can I get complete vent system information - drawings - etc?

Thank you

sounds as if there may be holes in the top of your gas tank but frist i would try replacing as much of the vent system as you could as the smell could just as easily be coming from engine compartment
