Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2009 Audi Q5 3.0 TDI won't crank won't start.
New battery and starter only 3 years old. It's been
working on and off since I got the car. It will run
fine for a week or so then stop working for a
couple weeks. However now it will not start at all.

I have absolutely no idea what's wrong with it. All
lights turn on but won't crank at all. Sometimes I
hear a single click coming from the engine but not
sure what part it is.

After trying to start it I always charge it overnight
with the trickle charger so battery is fine. (Brand
new).

Roadside assist me local mechanic halso had no
idea what's wrong with it.

No error code either.

Old European vehicle, start by looking at the wiring, especially ground circuits. I think you just starting the money pit phase.

I agree, start with the wiring harness, the one to the starter. Test for 12v at the the starter first, then undo the signal wire connector and have a friend start it, that should have 12v only while pressing the ignition to start. Then check the starter ground. If that is good replace the starter. If that all checked out, onto the something else.

Have you tried starting it in neutral? Move the shifter through all the selections a few times and try to start it. If it then fires up, in either Park or Neutral, the neutral safety switch is bad. They can be intermittent before they quit altogether. Hope that helps! Jim
