Get the codes read at the parts store. The engine goes into reduced power to protect it self from damage.
Sometimes engine, sometimes transmission problems, it's "limp mode" just like tenspeed said the computer does it intentionally to get you to a safe place off the road. and ditto on getting the OBD codes read
I have a 2008 PONTIAC G6 base model sedan that cut out on me on the highway. I heard 3 dings at the same time my engine light came on and the read-out on the radio was "SERVICE TRACTION OFF/ REDUCED ENGINE POWER". My neighbor who happens to be a mechanic told me to get some HEET and Sea Foam cleaner and pour these in my gas tank to help get rid of any water. He also told me to get some GUM-OUT and clean around the flap on the throttle body but be careful not to spray to much while cleaning. This happened today Jan. 7, 2015. My car is running fine now.
I have a 2001 Honda Passport and both my reduced power and check engine lights came on....any guesses?!?....to late!! It was my oil!! I was low on oil!!. So check your fluids before you do anything!! Good luck to all!!
