2011 Toyota Camry will not accelerate from stop position

Asked by Amy Nov 02, 2015 at 10:32 AM about the 2011 Toyota Camry

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My husband drives a 2011 Toyota Camry (90K miles)- This morning he
was driving to work and was stopped at a stop light (the car was in drive)
when he put his foot on the gas the car would not accelerate, he would
then put the car in park, wait a couple of seconds, put it back in drive and
then the engine would just rev up and then the car would "peel-out" and
start to move forward. It happened a couple times then he pulled into a
parking lot, left the car running and the car died. He could get the engine
started again and it would run for a little while then it will die.  The weirdest
part is that if he starts the car, puts it in reverse and drives it in reverse
there are no issues -car accelerates fine and it does not turn off.  Any
thoughts on what this issue is?

You may have a bad throttle position sensor, peddle position sensor, or a bad throttle body. The check engine light should be on. Have error codes scanned at your local Autozone. If you have already resolved the issue since this is an older post, please explain what the problem was and what you did to fix it. Thanks!
