Can you fit a bmw 550i engine in a bmw 325i

There's a chance, because the M3 used a slightly smaller V8. Though, the M3 has different body cladding, so I couldn't tell you for sure.

It depends the particular model the engine came from. 525i, 535i, etc. I'm not totally sure, but there is likely a stamp or sticker somewhere on the engine to identify it.
