Bluetooth phone icon stuck on and radio won't work

Asked by wingdoctor Mar 05, 2015 at 09:59 PM about the 2011 Chevrolet Malibu

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I was making a phone call with the bluetooth feature.  The phone icon appeared but the
call did not go through the car.  The phone icon stayed on the radio display and won't go
away.  Because of this the radio won't work.  I tried turning the car off, pressing the hand
up button on the steering wheel, etc.  Nothing has worked.  Any help would be
appreciated.

Have you turned your bluetooth off on your phone? And if so,remove the radio fuse from the fuse box, then replace it,should reset.

Thank you for the suggestions. I had tried turning the bluetooth off. I just tried removing the radio fuse. It made the phone icon disappear while the fuse was out but as soon as I replaced it the phone icon returned and it is still stuck on there and the radio won't work. For the heck of it I also tried removing the XM radio fuse to no avail.

Sound,s like the stereo is on the blink, meaning bad,but by removing fuse only, did not kill total power to it,try this, overnight, remove key from car, remove positive cable from battery, leave off for a while,or over nite, this will fix it if it can be fixed.

Thanks for the advice. I wasn't comfortable with my skills in removing the positive cable. Unfortunately, when I got up this morning my battery was dead, presumably because the bluetooth ran all night. AAA just gave me a jump and the icon is gone. If I had a few more skills, your idea would have fixed my problem. Thanks for the advice. If this ever happens again, I will definitely find someone to help me with the battery.

This has happened to me three times. This last time the battery went all the was down. Had to get it charged. Is this a Malibu problem? It needs to be fixed before it craps out my battery.

I know this is very late but for anyone that is having a problem with there Bluetooth icon not turning off here's what I did. 1. Unplug any cables in your vehicle (aux,USB) ext 2. Turn Bluetooth off on your phone 3. Turn off vehicle and take out keys 4. Open drivers door as far as it can open and leave it that way for 5 minutes.(this will reset the system). 5. Close door and start vehicle. For here it should work as normal but just to be safe delete your bluetooth pair from the vehicle, then pair them again. I hope this helps anyone in the future.

Disconnecting the + from battery works. Does anyone knows if this is radio unit issue or something else?

I disconnected the battery. It worked for awhile then had the same issue and woke up to a dead battery twice. I do not use it anymore. Bummed!!!

this issue will clear if you push the on-star button . Once it connects to on-star hangup. Issue will be resolved until next time it happens!

Help! My car will not disconnect my phone from the bluetooth even though I request it and it isn't connected on my phones side. I'm on a road trip right now too. What do I do? I've also been having issues where my dash says shift to park when I'm already in park and I have to run through all the gears and sometimes it does it repeatedly 6,8,10,14 times. It wont alarm my car unless I follow through until It believes the cars in park. 2016 Chevy Malibu Lt
