Need answer to service the transmission

Asked by AtlanticBeachFL Oct 31, 2017 at 08:19 PM about the 2009 Volkswagen Jetta SportWagen

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Help,(Car is NOT 2009 but would not let me go lower) My 2003 VW Jetta
wagon 1.8 Turbo with 80K miles on it ( just serviced) but when 1st started
will not shift from 2nd to 3rd unless engine is warmed up for 5 minutes. Was
told transmission was sealed and can not service, then another shop said
can open transmission & do plus change its filter and oil in it & clean it out. I
do not want to buy another transmission as car runs perfectly after initial shift
problem. Am I getting the correct information?  As I am nearly 80 yrs old and
car in terrific condition I want to keep it, so what do I do, please? Car has
had nothing major in all my 14 yrs with it (I know a new transmission is more
than Blue Book value!!) Thank you. (ps, no idea what "no trim options")
means
