2012 Caravan wouldn't shift into park, brake warning light on

Asked by Jason Oct 21, 2020 at 06:07 PM about the 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My wife was driving our 2012 caravan and when she
stopped at the store it wouldn't go into park. She finally
ended up getting it but then it did the same thing when she
got home, again finally ended up getting it. I went out and
looked at it and couldn't get it to repeat the issue but I
noticed the brake warning light is on on the dash. The only
thing I can find about a solenoid going bad is it not shifting
out of park but the issue is not going into park. Any ideas?

Update: I was still half asleep and the brake light was on because she set the parking brake. In my defense she never sets it. So the issue... not going into park.
