How does it handle in the rain and snow?
My Soul does not handle well in the rain or snow. Lots of hydro planing and
sliding. And I live in ohio so snow/ice is inevitable. A mechanic told me the
car just doesn't weigh very much and that's the problem. Before I go buy new
tires and give that a try, do you have experience or information that would
help? Thanks.

Get the set of new tires, and in the winter throw about three bags of sand in the back to help with the traction. The car is light and not many thing to do other then new tires and some weight...Good luck this winter and drive slow...
Planning to drive up to missurie from Florida I have a kia soul should I need snow tires. ???
I live in Florida, but am from Maine. An empty pickup isn't any good in ice and snow either, but if you add weight and a set of chains you'll do fine!! We were up in '05 with a pickup, had to have weight in the back and borrowed chains. I'll be back in Maine this winter with my Kia Soul...already have the chains!!

A lot of crazy answers here. Hydroplaning is a function of tires; the car will not hydroplane with tires having adequate tread depth. Putting sand bags in the rear of a front wheel drive is really asking for trouble in the snow. The back end will probably pass-up the driver when braking in the snow. Further most pickups are rear wheel drive, and a little extra weight over the DRIVE WHEELS may help. Studies have been done on FWD and AWD cars. An AWD car will be quick off the line, but it gives most drivers the feeling of invincibility and they drive too fast in bad conditions. A FWD car with snow tires all around will still not beat an AWD on start-up, BUT IT WILL BE A MUCH SAFER CAR TO DRIVE.
I live in NH travel to Maine also. Absolutely agree with Mullschlucker. Snow tires is all I need winters on our 2012 Soul.
Kia reels are the most on safest car to drive in the winter they are a piece of s*** I bought three of them just to try them out you can't even take a corner at 1/4 of the turning speed without the rear end coming around and doing the wrong ship
I live in Maine and just bought a 2011 Kia Soul. We just had a snow storm that dumped 12" of snow. I tried to drive to work on plowed roads, with regular tires, and it drove fine. On roads with 3-5" of snow, the vehicle became stuck. The next day, I went out and spent $500 for 4 snow tires. Snow tires are a must !!!!
