Are there any know issues with Sonata standard radios? Poor reception and sound quality?

Asked by sackman Aug 26, 2012 at 01:28 PM about the 2013 Hyundai Sonata

Question type: General

I have a 2013 Sonata and the standard radio seems "cheap". I have poor reception on the lower FM stations up to 100.1. Some of these lower stations are local in my area. The AM reception is below any know standard. I can understand some AM issues but this is unacceptable. The XAM is fine. Also, the door speakers have very low amplification so the bass response is poor.  My home clock radio receives and sounds better. With the technology today I expect much more. My area is Toms River NJ. My other cars have never had radio signal receiving issues, AM or FM. Do these small roof antennas work at all.

sackman: I have the exact problem with our otherwise nearly-perfect Sonata Limited no navigation...2012 model. Love the car...hate the radio. Did not get any satisfaction from two different dealers...

Joseph, They asked me to bring it in but I will try another test drive in another vehicle to compare radios...I dont want them ripping thru the dash and causing other problems.

I have a 2013 sonata limited. I have had issues with the radio from the start. I have been told by the dealer after three years that their radios suck and there is nothing they will do about it. I bought this car at Colonial Hyundai in Downingtown PA. Additionally, I reached out to the owner and got the same level of service. none

I may be able to help. For the specific issue of AM reception (with a less obvious issue of FM reception), the radio issues that plagued our 2012 Sonata Limited almost from Day 1 of ownership…here's what fixed it: a part the assistant service manager referred to as the "Antenna Module". With my phone I'm unable to supply a better description. And unfortunately I did not ask to see the part. Here's what I know: the radio works as it is supposed to. Prior to the fix no AM stations could be heard…and the FM reception was poor. I might add that the first service desk person I spoke with was not helpful at all.
