Reduced engine power

I was driving on the freeway when i heard a noise like a
piece of metal flinging off the road as it faded away.  I
looked in the rearview mirror and saw a piece of something
that look like a brake shoe bouncing off the highway it
sounded like it came from under my car I did not run it over
about 7 or 10 minutes later my reduced engine power light
came on
