Box on top of battery

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I am not the brightest person when it comes to car
repair so I always ask.  The little box that sets on
top of the battery.  Not sure what it is for but it has
4 wires connected to 4 bolts.  However mine is
missing a wire. Can someone please educate me
on what those are for n if it could be causing my
car to not want to start or even click like it's wants
to start.  I have uploaded a pic to show what I am
talking about.  I appreciate any help offered.
