Motor and trandmission swap

Although those are two different generations of Taurus, I don't think any major changes were made between those years. You can ask on Taurus Clubs of America, that site is loaded with info on the Taurus. 1996 was the first year for OBD2 and between 1996 and 2000, you may have had several minor changes made to the wire harnesses and computer modules which would require additional importing than just an engine and transmission. I think 1999 also saw a major redesign in the exhaust, I think they got rid of the earlier dual exhaust and swapped to a single exhaust, as well as a redesign of the EVAP system, so pay attention to location of purge/vent solenoids located near the intake. so to answer your question: Doable- yes, but with tweaks.
Thanks KenT that's exactly the kind of info I needed. Although I could probably do all the tweaking, eventually, I will pass on this motor and trans deal and wait a bit to find a direct swap deal so as to just make it as simple a swap as can be. My goal is to take one out an put one in and then drive home so to speak. Without a whole lot of thinking about it. As long as I can get in done in the next two months so surely by then I can locate a better match. Thank you for answering I really appreciate your input.
