It can be happen for many reasons. To avoid replacing unneeded parts please check the following: 1. Battery 2. Fuel Pump 3. Ignition Switch 4. Ignition Lock Cylinder 5. Starter 6. Camshaft Position Sensor
Hi Tshepo. Did you locate the problem? I have the same issue on my 2012 a5 coupe
Same problem here did some one fix the car
2012 A5 cabriolet has same issue. Starter $2800, Battery and cables $1800, towing over $3000, and no resolve. Audi dealer wants to replace battery and cables again! Hah! My daughter has been stranded over 20 times... no warning and sometimes it will resolve itself after sitting for a few hours/days.
Anyone manage to resolve this?? Same problem??
Hello I am also having the same issue. The car still has power from the battery but when I insert the key there is no response. No power to mmi or dash, but seats, high beams, and hazard lights all work. I am replacing my ignition switch today to hopefully solve the issue.

Jack let me know if it works. I had this just happen to me about 10 mins ago
Hi Jack, I’m also having the same issue on a 2013 A5 Cabriolet. Did you have any luck in resolving the issue? Be keen to know if the ignition switch resolved the issue. Thanks, Leyon

Hi All, Thought i'd share what the issue was in my case when i had no power to my car. I have an Audi A5 Cabriolet 2013 and was having the exact issues described where i was unable to start my car and nothing really worked other than my stereo.. Before finally arranging the recovery of my car ahead of time, to go to an Audi Approved dealer, I took the afternoon to have another check on the rear of my vehicle (Drivers Side) where the fusebox and other components are located. I proceeded to pull out pretty much all of the modules in order to check this visually. I double checked all the fuses and as i pulled out the components i noticed that there was another module tucked away which appeared to have some rust/corrosion. When eventually pulling this out, it was my Rear View Camera module. It had clearly been in contact with some water and effectively caused oxidation, reaching the PCB board and clearly burning out. (Something i will add is when my car was originally inspected by the recovery team before recovering the car home, there was some water in the back and the smell of burning but visually checking all the fuses and what could be seen at the time, everything appeared fine. This was clearly the reason for the burning smell that continued to linger around) So upon disconnecting this module in it's entirety, i reconnected all other modules & low and behold; the car began working as normal!! The Alarm, Central locking began working, the Hazard lights worked, i was able to now see the LCD screen turn on within the dash board when opening the drivers doors; windows came back to life and most importantly; the car started with all the usual dashboard lights coming on as expected. The only thing obviously not working is my camera when reversing but the sensors still function as per normal. Lastly i remember having an error before my dashboard went out whilst driving and it said "Parking Brake Malfunction", this came back up when started for the 1st time but as soon as i released the Electronic parking brake and re-engaged it; the error went away. One of the other things I had checked having put everything back (With the exception of the camera Module ) was whether water was originally getting in via the convertible lid somehoiw. Having checked it wasnt, but have now later learnt that it was coming in slightly via the Petrol Flap due to the small water drainage being blocked; therfore overflowing into the rear of the vehicle where the fusebox area was. In early Oct prior to this issue happening, when we had extremely heavy rain & this had likely played a part in my case. So for anyone else with a similar issue, it could be that a component/module is no longer functioning correctly but with the entire system being all connected; any single connected component/module could be causing the issue. I originally though my issue was due to a Faulty BCM unit and never bother tried to replace this as it would need to be coded and contains everything in order to start your car (I have Keyless systems). At the same time, I suppose if i'd just disconnected the cables going into my RVC module i may have got things working much sooner but if you've got a knack and not afraid to check yourself, have a look at all the fuses and components in that area. I was definitely able to save myself from a very expensive bill from the Audi Dealer who would have probably charged me an arm and leg to diagnose and fix. As i have the part number for my RVC Module, i'll try pick one up 2nd hand and have this re-fitted another time.

I have the same problem, the ignition does not turn on, I also felt the smell of burning but I have no camera module. Has any of you solved differently ??? thanks for the replies
In my case it was the Camera but I would suggest having a real look and disconnecting the modules in the rear, too track where the burning smell may still be coming from. You’ve got some really important modules back there so you can’t simply pull all the cables out but you could also check for any corrosion when you pull out the cable and look where the pins are..
has anyone resolved the situation, I have a 2013 Audi A5 cabriolet with the same problems. I checked the rear and I did not have any corrosion. I am hoping someone else might be able to shed light on this?
