Smoking wires 2014 dodge journey

2014 journey, wouldn't start, clicking, replaced starter
relay, nothing, put in new battery, plastic piece fell out of
battery area identified as battery temperature sensor,
connected positive cable, as connecting negative lots of
sparking and wiring harness started smoking, cable are on
correct terminal
