Gear shifter is stuck

Me daughter has managed to get her 2016
Ford Fusion shifter stuck! It will no longer
start when she turns the key and she was
driving it in sport mode. So the dash is
indicating that it is still in sport mode rather
than in park. I have no idea what it could be
but I she is two hours away so I am on the
way to hopefully figure out what is going on.
Any helpful tips would be useful.

Sounds like the shifter linkage is disconnected somewhere between the gearshift and the transmission. That tends to happen if someone's using the gearshift aggressively.
