Could thermostat be stuck?

2012 fusion temp gauge went all the way to
hot sitting in a drive thru. Pulled out and
turned car off for a few minutes. Turned
back in no problems. Now it only takes a
few minutes for it to get hot. Could it be the
thermostat stuck shut?
