I went out for a quick errand in our vw jetta but when I got home I accidentally turned the car off while in drive. I turned it back on and switched it to park right away, and the check engine light came on. I was just wondering if I damaged the engine really bad and if I'm going to have to take it to a mechanic now?

It might just be a strange coincidence - I would recommend having someone scan the MIL code to verify the trigger but turning the car off in drive does not cause any damage
