I was at Subaru yesterday and they recommended that on a forester you go in every 5,000 miles for an oil change

Most vehicles have a dummy light that will come on that tells you to change the oil. This light is generally based on how often you drive, condition you drive etc. It is not necessarily the mileage you do so. You can usually check your oil off your dipstick and if it’s dark or don’t look right change it. All vehicles recommend oil change at 5,000 miles but you don’t necessarily need to. Best bet is wait till your change oil indicator light comes on then do it.
I change my oil every 5,000 miles in my 2015 Forester.
