Why did the Dodge Durango become a crossover instead of a heavy duty SUV?

I love my 2009 Durango and was excited about getting a new one.  Found out that the new Durango is now a crossover that is smaller, lower to the ground.  I need power enough to tow, size enough to tow, with lots of ground clearance.  So angry.  Now I'm looking at Tahoes and Yukons.  Really, why???

Most people these days want a car like ride in their SUV's. The days of truck based SUV's may be over.
