Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I started vehicle this morning to find a a vertical rectangular white block in the middle of the media screen, it then turned black. It prohibits viewing of the entire screen nothing in owners manual. Called dealership no response. Didn't know if it was something I could do to reset?

i have the same issue, with the left 1/3 of the screen. did you find a fix without taking a day to go to the dealership?
I experienced the same problem this morning. I called the dealership and taking it in on Saturday.
Same issue here. Started car to fine color vertical lines on left half of screen. (See pic) then went black within 5 minutes. Screen on/off button has no effect. Can you tell how you resolved issue?
Mine changes radio stations and turns AC on its own
So did were any of you able to get this problem fixed? my center console has a mind of it's own, changes radio stations, turns heat on and off, displays back up camera while moving forward etc... It's brand new! I took it to the dealership last month they did an update but couldn't see the problem. It just happened again and I drove directly to the dealership and dropped it off for them to work on while it was screwed up. They said Chrysler is aware but won't have a new update to fix until late March! Do I wait?
I took mind on Monday supposedly they did an update on the radio. No issues so far, but according to these post issues might return. My son drives a dodge Ram and has the same issue. It has to do with the Radio. The radio controls the AC and other features. I believe the Radio needs to be replaced eventually.
I have the same problem. Here in SW Florida. Took it in to the dealer service center and they said, "Hummmmmmmmmmmm".
My jeep is displaying @! Engine display is showing what's wrong?

MY 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee started this today!!!
My 2019 Jeep Cherokee has this problem how could this be fixed
The dealership did an update on radio and it seemed to fixed the problem, hopefully this issue will not return
Today it happened to me no screen and no radio on jeep cherokee 2019
My Jeep did the same. Turn ignition on and hold both the volume and tube button at the same time. Should fix the issue.
Just picked up a 2019 Jeep Cherokee Limited High Altitude. Touch screen unusable. Prompt constantly skips from position to position on its own. Changes media settings. Changes radio channels. Changes temp controls. Changes GPS etc. etc. Also, before this all started I tried to browse my iPod via USB. After 5 minutes I stopped it. So, I think there's a couple of issues with this car. Unfortunately it made the great experience of picking up a brand new car into an aggrivating disappointment. I don't see how the dealership was unaware of the problems.
JrogJeep - What's a "tube button?"
My uconnect radio switches from screen to screen, turns on a/c, turns on backup camera while going forward, it seems to cycle thru the entire menu turning things on and off. Had it at the dealer 5 times, finally I recorded it on my phone and emailed it to the service manager who said he forwarded it to the manufacturer, they said an update would be coming before the end of March. Today is April 2nd and there is still no update available. I called customer service three weeks ago and they assigned me a customer care rep who emailed me and said they'd be in touch in a day or two, and have never heard back from them.

Follow-up The salesman went over many of the touch screen features before we signed. After a 5 minute demonstration of several settings; GPS, Radio memory, Bluetooth pairing etc no problems were evident. We moved on to other things. As it turns out this problem is a known issue and is supposedly being addressed by the people at Uconnect. Customer service stated that a software update is pending to fix the ‘bug’. After my own troubleshooting I realized the glitch is triggered by using any USB port to browse a media device. I tried both a thumb drive and my iPod with audio files connected through USB 1 and USB 2. The touch screen failed every time. No USB device. No Uconnect issues. I hope this helps anyone who is experiencing the same problem with the Uconnect system in their Jeep.
I didn't have anything plugged in when mine went crazy. So I'd disagree with that analysis. I would say the steering button to switch media (FM to AM or Satelite) might have something to do with it. I haven't used that since my last episode and all is good. Uconnect is supposed to be working on it, said a fix would be ready in April. I continue to check my vin# online with them but no results.

Here it is a few weeks later. I removed my 100 or so playlists from my iPod and began adding them 5 or 6 at a time. Each time the 'browse' took a little longer. However, I have still not been able to duplicate the problem I experienced on day 1. Just a note. My 2006 Cherokee's Uconnect system loaded up my 30gb/8000 file iPod in 10 seconds. With it now at about 80% full it still takes 7+ minutes. If the Uconnect random screen change problem is not caused by a USB glitch. Then the loading and browsing of devices is another issue. Based on my experience with another car's Uconnect one way or another it is system failure in this vehicle's Uconnect.
JrogJeep is right. Press and hold the volume and tune buttons simultaneously and it should fix the problem.
Steveguitarist answered 5 years ago
I tried the Volume/Tune 'trick' the day after I picked up the car.It didn't work. But I'm going to try it again today anyway.
Update: 2019 Jeep Cherokee High Altitude. Volume/Tune does not work. The update was due in March. It's now going on June. Still no update. Now it's beginning to get a bit ridiculous. This is a problem that should not have existed in the first place!
Had the same issue Media screen was completely black pushed the volume button and tune button at the same time quickly don't hold down screen came right back !!
Same story here. Screen on 2019 Cherokee started acting up then went completely black. This right before I was to leave on summer road trip with little time to visit dealer. Thankfully, this site provided a much needed short term fix with simultaneously pressing volume & tune buttons (with ingnition on). Will still take to the dealer when I return but hopefully will at least have music/climate/nav systems for road trip.

This will probably be my last post regarding this problem. The fact remains that after the dealership made the repair (see attached) iPod still takes over 20 minutes to populate the media system. That's ridiculous. Especially since my 2016 did the task instantly. So, I'm left with "I guess I'll have to live with it". Replacing the "center stack" (which is the panel containing the manual controls under the radio) may have fixed some issue with the system. But certainly not the problem affecting the USB. Just a side note. I wrote a very terse email to Chrysler threatening that my next contact would be through my lawyer. I got a response in 2 days from the dealer. That, after having made calls, texts and emails and receiving BS answers for 3 months. Just sayin'. Good luck to all. This may be my ninth and last Jeep.
Have issues with the touch screen getting too hot and unable to use. Took to the dealership and operating temp rating is 140 degrees. My screen reached 150 degrees. Can smell wires burning under the dash. Dealership stated the part is not available yet because it’s a new car. I told there there are 40 new Latitudes in their lot, take one out and get mine working. They wouldn’t do it. I’ve made a couple calls and emails to Jeep. Waiting to hear back. Anyone else experience this?
My 2019 Jeep Cherokee trailhawk just did this today, lined screen then went black a few minutes later. Restarted car, turned display screen on and off and still black. Parked it and an hour later it worked again. Still taking it into the dealership to get it looked at since it’s under warranty.
I buy one jeep cherokee 2019 and after three months suddenly can not power on screen is black my phone can not see my screen and navegat no result on my speed screen and clock flashing but when use return back camera is open so I tryied change card behind screen and inter new code it is work but can not connect with the main car computer my new card belond jeep cherokee 2017 so I thing 2019 have change with 2017
Jeeps are gar-bitch I'll NEVER buy another one!

I have a 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee, my screen is black and won’t turn on. I did what u guys said to push the volume and tune at the same time with the car running. However it didn’t work does anyone have any other ideas ?
My 2019 jeep compass latitude screen just froze in the middle of my conversation. Went to the dealership and that is another story by itself. I am taking it back in the morning but in the meantime the screen is displaying the parties name I was talk with and the screen is extremely hot. 5 months old!!!!
Press volume button and tune button at the same time until the screen shuts off !!!!

Regarding the noise when shifting for the 2019 Jeep latitude plus. That noise is not to be concerning. It is an shifting gas optimization.. meaning it is learning the way you drive. It should lessen over time. If not, take it to your closet dealer and they will reset/the shift modulator. The screen going on and off and blacking out etc. is clearly an issue in which similar to Apple with their frequent updates etc.... these you will have to go to dealer to make sure you get the update. I do think they needed to test this before these went to market. Yes it may be required to replace the center stack. Yes, these issues are certainly just # AJEEPTHING
My 2019 Jeep Cherokee Latitude screen went crazy selecting different options after I used a soft cloth the clean the display screen. The random lasted for over 20 minutes. I took it to the dealership after work and I was told they could not help because it had stopped by the time I got there after several hours of being turned off. It happened again a couple weeks later and I got it to the dealership while it was happening. They said they could not do anything because there were no updates. I was told to try not to wipe the screen while it is on. Now I turn the radio off which causes the screen to be off when wiping. The first time no problem. The second time it randomly selected radio stations, climate controls, setting, etc. it’s very frustrating. This is my first Jeep.
Has anyone tried to go aftermarket for radio and controls ran in to this on a 2019 jeep compass trailhawk it's at dealer now but long term radio center screen went black heated seats on high, no radio, no back up camera, traction control is off, no remote start, and battery drains in a day with car parked I feel this could put a driver in a dangerous and uncomfortable situations anyone have an attorney they are working on this...
Consult a lawyer and return the vehicle if they refuse to fix it promptly no matter what their BS story is. Get someone who is an expert on your state's lemon laws which can be very, very helpful to you especially on a new car. Don't just accept their BS stories. You paid for that warranty and they are breaching it from what I am reading in here. If they do that there are serious legal repercussions..
On the screen issue; dumb as this may sound, I did the majority of fixes for my all black, non-functioning Nav screen etc. on my new 2019 Grand Cherokee! Turns out my son had just turned the radio button off! When off, the button kills the entire screen! Bad engineering IMHO but at least it now works! Before you run to the dealer and look totally stupid (lol)......you might to be sure the radio is on!
I have a 2020 cherokee. Sometime my whole screen will freeze. Cant turn the radio up or down, no air controls. And when I turn my jeep on, sometimes the lane departure warning on the mirrors comes on and wont shut off. Both reset after I turn the jeep off and back on again. What is this?
Has anyone had this problem solved?? Chrysler is denying my Lemon Claim and I'm running into my 2 year limit on being able to fight this.
Over a year ago I posted here my problems and how I was promised there would be an update in March 2019. This was after the dealer replaced the entire uconnect unit in my Cherokee, and after emailing videos of what was happening with the backup camera coming on while driving forward, the a/c fan turning on and off, the radio turning itself on and off etc etc. The final straw was when I was on a road trip and 750 miles from home and all the USB ports and 12v ports stopped working, and then after a number of hours mysteriously began working again. I traded the Jeep shortly thereafter. I have purchased Jeeps, Dodges, Chryslers for over 30 years, but I will NEVER EVER AGAIN IN MY LIFETIME purchase another one of those vehicles!
I have a 2018 Grand Cherokee and my whole media system is messed up. The screen will freeze up and I can’t even work the AC or other apps. Last time I buy a Chrysler product.
Same issue. 2018 Grand Cherokee Limited. Randomly selects various items on the screen. It seems like it always selects something in the same location on the screen....like it has something sticking to that spot or depressing it. I live in Texas and the Jeep is kept outside and its all black on black so its HOT! The front clear screen portion started delaminating from the rest of the unit before all of this began so I thought this was a heat damage issue..... Are anyone else's issues with a Jeep in a hot area? Is it possible to just replace the screen like you would on a lap top computer?
In Texas as well. I called our local jeep dealer and they said yes, it is "delaminating" and it is common issue caused by heat but completely out of pocket, not part of any recall. It is $1,590 for a new center.
Guru99Z1NJ answered 4 years ago
The screen in my 2018 grand Cherokee Ltd started heating up a couple months ago and quite randomly. I usually use the controls on the steering so I didn’t realize HOW HOT the screen was getting but it would actually heat up so much inside the car that I’d be opening the windows or turning on the AC. I live in a cool climate though so could really notice a significant change. One day I touched the screen and it was burning hot and hot all around the screen and upper dashboard . My dealership replaced the radio system (fully under warranty) which hopefully also fixes the heated steering issue (keeps turning off after a minute or two) and the usb issue. Crossing fingers it works but after a few hours of driving with the new system the screen seemed pretty hot again. I wonder if that’s what’s causing the ‘delaminating’ issues you are referring to?
My 2018 Summit starting acting up about 3 months ago. Problem started out intermittently but it will only get worse. Took it to the shop today. RADIO has to be REPLACED. They come out of New York. I was told the wait for the part in April was as long as 48 days. (New York covid lock down). I was told today the wait is approx. 3 weeks but could be sooner. Wish me luck.

MY STEREO FREEZES IT ONLY SAYS JEEP ON THE SCREEN I HAVE A 2018 GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED I JUST PURCHASED IT AND I JUST SEE THAT I MADE A HUGE MISTAKE AM HAUNTED FOR NEXT 6 YEARS
There is a woman above that nailed this issue. It is related to heat. They will try to run software updates based on what the "factory' tells them to do. I had my radio replaced under warranty....the new radio did the same thing two days later. It is related to heat. The unit is either not insulated to protect from additional heat that comes down through the windshield on the dash or not vented properly. Either way, this is a design flaw by Jeep. I am currently at the dealership and we have the full history in the computer at this point. I'm seeing if there is anything they can do that will truly fix the issue now knowing exactly what is causing it.. 5th time here for this screen in just over 2 years. 65 degrees and direct sunlight or any weather over 80 and the screen goes haywire.
iml84myd8s answered 2 years ago
tmac1361 is right about it being heat related. 4th FAILED display monitor in 7 MONTHS! 2019 #Jeep Trackhawk with 707HP engine (but display won't work) $100k+ new Under Warranty #Chrysler & #UConnect ongoing failure 4 years of online consumer complaints I made every attempt to logically explain it was unrealistic to believe the media display was causing the malfunction AFTER the 2nd and 3rd media displays failed to work immediately after installation. The odds a 4th media display would work were almost 0% and the Chrysler UConnect Star engineers all disagreed with me. I made every attempt to explain to all the parties involved the display malfunction does NOT occur below 75-80 degrees so they CANNOT evaluate the malfunction in the cooled service area. The display malfunctions immediately occur after being parked outside when temperatures are above 80+ degrees. Chrysler UConnect need to STOP focusing on the display unit they keep replacing and START focusing on what other items are affected by heat. The original display unit worked for over two years and almost 24,000 miles. Therefore, there is something that NO LONGER works DUE to temperatures being hotter than 80 degrees. I am a Mechanical Engineer with decades of experience designing, building and solving problems. I am skeptical with the possible cause tmac1361 just stated about not having enough insulation or ventilation to keep the display cooled. I am skeptical because my original display worked for almost 3 years with the same insulation and ventilation. I believe it has nothing to do with the display unit because the same vertical colored lines and black screen has occurred on all 4 units they installed in the past 7 months. I believe it has nothing to do with software because heat would not affect the software "bug". I believe there is another component that eventually (1-3 years) becomes affected by heat and Chrysler "engineers" still have not discovered the root cause. This issues has been a consumer complaint since 2018. FOCUS AND SOLVE THE ISSUE!! I WILL CONTINUE TO AIR MY COMPLAINTS TO WARN ALL CONSUMERS ON SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS UNTIL THE MEDIA DISPLAY IS WORKING.
iml84myd8s, I had my issue since I had my car which made me think it may be an issue with the screen but you could be right as well that it could be a component connected to the screen that fails with the heat. I am at the dealership today, they have put in my 3rd radio but refuse to leave until the car sits in the sun for an hour. I have brought an infrared thermometer with me to show them how the internal temperature plays a role in how it functions. I also brought a log of when it does and doesn't work. We'll see what happens...

10-10-2022 update I am leaving the best for last. FINALLY, WE MIGHT HAVE FOUND A SOLUTION AFTER 1 YEAR OF FAILED ATTEMPTS! Yes, you read this right. One damn year ago the media display failures began in October 2021. I said might because it is still too early to be 100% certain. On October 3, 2022, the local Jeep dealership installed a new Center Stack. At this point, one week later, it appears to have solved the problem. However, I do not want to jump the gun for two reasons. First, we had newly installed media displays that worked for a few weeks before failing and the screen turned to colored vertical lines. Furthermore, we know the higher temperatures caused the media display to fail above 75 degrees Fahrenheit. The fall temperatures have been in the mid-70s to mid-80s without any vertical lines on the screens, which is promising. Jeep dealership along with Chrysler Star Engineering and UConnect support could not provide any explanations as the cause for the media display turning to colored vertical lines, especially when the outside temperature was above 75 degrees Fahrenheit. This is crazy when you consider so many consumers have been complaining about this very issue online since 2018! Yes, you read this right. This failure began on various 2019 Jeep models that started being sold in 2018 and continued to be an issue 5 years later with 2019 Jeep models. How the hell do Chrysler, Jeep and UConnect engineers not know the cause and solution is absolutely astonishing? Frankly, the entire engineer team who designed and implemented these changes in 2019 should all be fired because simple problems should only require simple solutions. As for the solution, we only figured it out by blind dumb luck. The Jeep dealership technician damaged my Center Stack when replacing the 4th Media Display. It took months for Jeep to receive a new Center Stack replacement. There were no recommendations to replace the Center Stack for the past year until it was accidentally damaged when they removed it to install the 4th failed Media Display. Fortunately, we learned by blind dumb blind luck the Center Stack was indeed causing the failure to occur. Chrysler, Jeep and UConnect engineers and technicians still have NO LOGICAL explanation how the Center Stack could cause the Media Display to have nothing but vertical colored lines before going entirely black screen. I hope the mistake made by the Jeep technician and the dumb blind luck helps others too! Mopar Center Stack https://www.moparpartsgiant.com/parts-list/2019-jeep- grand_cherokee/electrical/center_stack_multimedia_control.html We absolutely love our Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 and our Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk. It is amazing the Chrysler team dropped 500HP and 700HP into these models. It is more amazing the same Chrysler engineers and designers who figured out how to design and build these amazing SUVs cannot figure out how to solve the simple problems. Based on this horrific experience, we are now seriously considering selling both of our Jeeps (SRT8 and Trackhawk). Chrysler demonstrated for over a year they are not a quality auto company based on their lack of knowledge, execution and customer support.
hello to all freinds. this problem was to me and i repire it and its work 100% you can ask me in my whatsapp +972522668877 elan
