....and your timing belt is about to go...how long has it been...30,000 is all that you can RELIABLY expect out of a timing belt....a chain will go 100,000 before it starts to suffer from a stretched condition and sounds like a can of marbles......but a de-laminating belt can whip-whoop against the timing cover...I believe this is what is happening here (without even lookin' up anythin')~

I have a 1991 Lexus LS 400 that started that noise about 2 weeks ago. I thought it was the water pump. The real problem surfaced about a week ago when the Serpentine Belt broke on the car a block from my house. The " Fan Bracket" looks like a water pump, but it is not and is run off the Serpentine Belt to turn the Fan only! The bearing was freezing up causing the noise. It finally came apart and froze up completely. I tore into everything when I didn't need to! The "Fan Bracket" costs $150.00. Caution: there is one bolt that comes through one ear of the Air Compressor that bolts into the "Fan Bracket". The Tutorials don't show that. You have to jack up vehicle to get it from underneath. DON'T FORGET TO REATTACH GROUND CABLE DOWN THERE, OR VEHICLE WILL NOT START!
My 2002 es300 lexus started having battery problems in September. I changed the battery and the alternator. Ran fine and last week wouldn't start with a grinding clicking vibration noise when key was turned. AAA came out and jumped it. It ran fine until yesterday when same noise started. Lights and everything worked. Today no noise everything is black nothing happens.
