You said you could not open the door with the key. Did you try it on the passenger side? Not likely the key would fail in both locks but I suppose it could be damaged somehow. You may be able to open the hood from the underside by either compressing the latch with a long screwdriver or loosening the mounting bolts/nuts and letting the latch come loose.

I have exactly the same problem. My battery is so dead that the manual key can't unlock the doors, which... someone should be fired over. I'm at a meter. It's snowing. Waiting for Nissan dealership to open so they can explain why I have my keys, a dead battery, a fully-charged Jump-n-Carry and a major crisis. Will try Taver's suggestions to try and pry open the hood.

Also there is only a keyhole on the drivers' side; mine is an '09
@taver91. You evidently don't have a clue what your talking about so please let someone who does answer the question, PLEASE
Did you ever find out why your manual key wouldn't work? My daughter had same issue. Key fob actually popped trunk so she could climb in to pop hood buy manual keys (both) would not work.
Had same problem with my daughters 2012 Murano. Fob would not unlock it. Only one key hole on drivers side. Key would not unlock it either. Whoever designed that needs to be looking for a job. Tow truck guy came and opened hood from outside and jumped it off. Battery was DEAD. This would be BAD if there was an emergency.
I only have a drivers side key entry. Neither key will even turn in it. The last time my battery died, my keycard worked. Didn't even know I had a key til now. I've had the car for over 3 yrs and no one told me. Battery is a yr old.
Have a 2011 Nissan battery dead and the key will not open the door
Did anyone find a solution to this problem. Battery is absolutely dead, key won't turn, and there is no clear way to open the hood for a boost. To top it all off, can't park on that side of the road on on of the days so can probably get a parking ticket. 2009 Altima hybrid.
I can't use my key now to open doors. I'm stuck I'm store parking lot. Stated with key not ready in the slot or keyless to crank it. Says no battery. Bought battery. Rubbed ignition with it and now everything is dead help
Stupid brand Nissan, damn car won’t open no way after losing power
What’s the best way to pop the hood from the outside when locked out? I can see the hood latch mechanism and can move it with a screwdriver, just can’t get it to pop to charge battery. Help :/
Did anyone found a solution for this ,having the same problem
I solved my problem. My battery connection was loose so I could not get in to the car to pop the bonnet(hood). I go a coat hanger and pipes the hood manually by hooking onto the bonnet release wire through the grill - pulled it and it popped open - simple. Try it!
Just keep extra new pattrey in your poket evertime and DURACELL is the best one .there are 2 thing for nissan murano not good the key and the CVT transmition.
I had same problem key wouldn't open door and battery dead. Tryed hooking latch under hood couldn't get it to pop starting new job this morning cant be late. So i got a pair of dike cutters and cut the cable inside the grill middle of drivers side grill once thru pulled cable hood poped.
I was having the exact same problem on my 2012 Nissan Pathfinder and my boyfriend inserted the key and opened it right up! :/ seems I wasn't applying enough force...I was afraid if I tried too hard the key would brake! We now have the battery on a charger
What a stupid design by Nissan! I had to remove driver side front wheel, then all the wheel well plastic, then hook a booster battery directly to the starter. That gave enough juice to unlock the car and charge the battery fully.
My husband has a dead battery on a Nissan NV200 Vann neither of his 2 keys will fit in the ignition or doors. Does anyone know why? HELP..

OK Just got the same problem a few times with my Nissan Maxima 2009. Dead battery. Pissed off why the FOB metal key inside doesn't unlock mechanically the door. It does turn but only a little electric buzz sound that seems to try to unlock electrically but the battery is too dead. God dam! why engineer had put this F%$# key for? So I read some blog that talk about wrong key fabrication code and it trigger an idea to try the second FOB that I have with the key inside. Guess what! It unlock mechanically the door... I was stunned! I spend many $$$ to call towing to unlock it when it happen. I put side by side the 2 keys...really can't see a difference from the eye. Another idea that I have if no keys work, After someone open my door, I would have installed a waterproof isolated RED wire from the battery positive pole and hide it somewhere under the car just have the option to get a 12V device to only unlock the door. Good luck!
Wow!!! Has anyone talked to Nissan dealership & gotten an uncomplicated answer? 2009 Sport Nissan Maxima exact same issue - neither key works - battery good both key fobs. Obviously must have left push button start in on position because pushing key fob to lock car makes windows all go down approximately every 3rd time i lock car or open car. This started after auto repairs. I'll try options mentioned for breaking into my car; however, I'm probably just calling AllState & utilizing roadside assistance. Hoping when person sent out arrives, he/she will know what to do. I hope person who designed this feature is outed, that he/she is not fired. Instead, he/she has to work day & night arriving at workable easy solution. Has there been a recall on this issue?
Just spoke with Nissan Dealership - only recommendation was have car towed to them & be out of pocket more money than should ever be necessary. Next, i contacted 1-800-Nissan1 & ended up speaking to consumer affairs. He, whom i won't name, wasn't even capable of taking a complaint that would go to any of his superiors. Also, he couldn't provide me with anyone's contact info where i could speak with a decision maker. Stated Nissan research knows all issues & makes recalls when they believe necessary. Unbelievable!!!
Was about to jack it up and put a charger on the starter wires... you turn the mechanical key to the right, not left like every other vehicle. Turned it right, lifted the door handle and It opened the door on mine.
This video about the hidden mechanical key may help. https://www.youtube.com/watch? v=Y8ZQ0xsJi1o&fbclid=IwAR1MyAQ9FffqAAwIIFsra42PXFJI3bT3BxlQ3V6fJb5U8zohw9RS WHcuVvk&app=desktop

Get two wedges don’t know where from but I’m at home same problem. And a long sturdy pole that can fit in between the door jam. Proceed to try in unblock door as it is easy slide back switch above the handle and o yeah hammer the wedges into door until wide enough to stick long sturdy pole I’m sorry for the ass backwards explaination
Check this out... You will see how to open a hood without getting in the car... https://youtu.be/SlunpRCz78g
Take your time and try the key again. I tried the key and it didn't work. The spare key didn't work. In this website, someone said their boy friend tried and it worked. Before I got even more upset and do something drastic, I played with the lock, jiggled the key, took a little time and it lined up and opened the door. The turned a little bit and then I pulled the door handle open and viola. I thank that person who posted that solution and decided to let people know, trying again with the key is a real option.

2016 Max - dead battery, Can't open the doors to access the hood release - both batteries in both FOBs ok. tried accessing the mechanical hood release from front grill- not able - it is behind the radiator. at first I Tried the mechanical key from both key sets ....I had to put wd40 on the key to allow it to go in the key hole all the way......turned it once right, then left, but nothing happened. Saw GuruJ8BMM note....I tried again to open the door by lifting the door handle but this time - jiggling the key right and left at the multiple times....the door opened after trying this several times....lifted hood....battery was completely dead ....thanks to J8BMM it led me to solution.....

It's a hidden key in the keyfob to manually unlock car door.
if u can take a piece of flat stock and nip out 3/4 " depth out of both sides a crude slim jim if u will . start at drivers window by the key slot move forward 6-8" then come back to keyhole u will feel it catch slight tug presto

YES! Jiggle the key. Do not give up. It took me quite a while, but it finally turned. Push, pull, turn it around the other way. Something might work for you.
I had this happen to me because the door sensor stayed in after I exited the vehicle (so it thought I was still in it.) Had a locksmith come out and he tried the drivers door even though I had told him that I had the key and could see the lock moving back and forth, he couldn't get in with his tools. Then he tried the passengers side and got in. So if this happens to you, you can get in any door except the drivers by flipping the lock.
I just had the same problem with both the key fob and the emergency key not working on my 2015 Nissan Rogue too. (I tried for about 45 minutes to get to the manual inside lock release button by my interior door handle with a couple of homemade slim jims but just ended up scratching the inside of my door frame pretty good and tearing off part of my weather stripping at the top side of my door.) Try lubricating the key and/or the key hole (if you have a straw) with a spray lubricant like CRC or DW- 40. Keep turning the key until it turns clockwise to unlock the door. When inside, press the brake pedal while while holding the bottom of the key fob to the ignition button. The normal icons should then appear on your dash screen to keep pushing the brake and the push the ignition button. Hopefully your car will start. I heard that it's a known issue with the car not recognizing the key fab...maybe a fuse issue. If this does not work and you have no power, you may need to jump your battery and/or get a new one...or a new fuse (not sure which one though). I have had to take out (and just put back in) the large white fuse to make my electronic hatchback door to open and close again. Hope some of this was helpful to someone out there. I know it is very frustrating.
2011 Nissan Maxima... left accessories on accidentally overnight... dead battery... tried multiple times to unlock with mechanical key w/o luck. Was about to call AAA or locksmith tomorrow then found above "keep jiggling" and "WD40" tips... IT WORKED. After spraying some WD40 into lock and on keys, couldn't turn with my fob key but worked with my wife's. Have to turn CLOCKWISE full 90 degrees. Turned easily actually after sprayed the lube in. Popped hood, jumped after few minutes charging off other running car's battery, then drove around town about 30 minutes in 1 and 2nd gear (sport mode) to recharge. Battery was new just a few months ago so it should be fine now. THANK YOU!
