Blower not working at all in 1990 Alero Oldsmobile. Need help troubleshooting.

Asked by Robert Jan 06, 2019 at 04:55 PM about the 2004 Oldsmobile Alero

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

With the windshield now frosting to the point of zero visibility in the morning, I
can no longer afford to put off trying to fix the blower. By no means can I
afford to bring it to a shop, but I must do something, so here I am. Any help
at all would be greatly appreciated. Currently, no matter what the setting is
at, or temperature of the car, RPMS, or what have you, does the blower
come on at all or make even a tiny sound. I'm thinking possible fuses but
haven't checked them at all yet as I don't have the manual or anything to tell
me what fuse does what.

So this is an 04 model year? Get at the blower motor electrical connector, take it loose, Use a test light between the two terminals on the wire plug. Key on, hvac on, hi speed, if the test light comes on, you have voltage and ground enough for the test light. If good voltage and ground and no blower action, suspect the blower motor. In the past, I have taken blower motor apart, just killing time, the small brushes were wore down to the nub. Replaced the blower motor. Just my opinion.

Save some time, unplug the blower motor then use a test light to see if there's current at the connector if yes replace the motor if no look for in the fuse block for a fuse marked HVAC. The resistor, relay and switch may also come into play. But I hunch you have a bad motor.
