2002 Oldsmobile Alero: Cruise Control will not set?
Asked by Brittany Sep 30, 2016 at 01:55 AM about the 2002 Oldsmobile Alero GLS Coupe
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
All of a sudden, my cruise just stopped working. I press the ON/OFF switch,
which works because the light comes on in my instrument panel, but when I
press SET, it will not set.
Another problem I seem to be having, which may be a correlation? I don't
know. My turn signals only work when they want to. Sometimes they flash
really fast, sometimes they don't flash at all. I've checked fuses and they're
good. I've also checked bulbs. I'm going to check the hazard switch
Saturday.
I had subwoofers in this car for 4 years, maybe this is causing problems
with electrical?
Anyway, I'm planning on selling this car and I'm trying to fix it up asap, but
I'm at wits end with this thing.

The flasher controls the turn signals ability to flash and a tell/tell sign it is going out is very fast flashing. Its located under dash and somewhere near the fuse panel or between fuse panel and steering column. Below is a pic of a replacement but your OEM may be plastic and square.

The cruise control push buttons, if yours is mounted on steering wheel, these little push buttons can fail easy and is most likely reason for it not working. These can be purchased at auto parts stores for around $55.00. The air bag has to be disconnected which is under the fuse panel on left side of steering wheel on dash panel. Big yellow connector at top left. Then the cover around steering column has to come off (big cover between dash and back of steering wheel), Then center section of steering wheel has to be removed from back side, then air bag has to be disconnected and removed, then the cruise switch removed and disconnected and the new switches installed and everything else reinstalled in reverse.

Here is a instruction on an 1999 which is similar and it shows a cheap $20 fix but you can also just replace the switch and use the steps & pics as a guide but put in a new set of cruise switches too.

Do oxygen sensors work on both 4cyl and 6cyl? I bought a O2 sensor ES 20107 for a 02 Alero and it's a V6 would it still work?
Hi on the 04 olero if the cruise light comes on the switch but does not show on the dash, what could this be?
