2002 Pontiac Grand Prix ticking noises in engine

My car doesn't knock but ticks constantly when I drive it....does anyone have any idea what the cause of this could be? It started this morning and we thought it was because it was cool outside so we let it warm up but it continues to tick. Could it be because of the gas I put into last night??

maybe lifter tap? When was the last time the oil was changed

we changed the oil and oil filter today....put octane booster in the tank when it was almost empty and then filled it w/super unleaded gas and the ticking has stopped. the prob now is the oil light continues to stay on...every time we change the oil the light stays on for like 10 mins after car is started then goes off, do you know why it might do this? could it be a short causing the light to stay on???

how many miles does the vehicle have? generally the tick usually means a hydraulic lifter is starting to wear out allowing clearance betweem the the lifter and the rocker arm. the tick is caused when the rocker arm closes the clearance and smacks the lifter assembly sometimes a quart of Lucas oil additive added at oil change may quiet this down

what kind of oil did you use? if is a thinner 5weight oil the pump may be having a harder time building up adequate pressure, also some gm vehicles have a procedure to turn off the light after oil change check owners manual
