how do i know if my engine number matches the vin.number?

One way is to contact the Chevrolet Division of General Motors and request a build sheet for your car.

the last six digits of the vin should match the last six of the engine number 214402 vin 314402 check it again

the block casting number just id's the block as 69 396/402 with 265-375 hp meaning that this block was used in several applications.

109 is the date code JE is the engine code, this is a Chevelle high performance engine (HPE) with an automatic tranny T/H turbo hydramatic.

if it is 1969 you can check on the front pade or were the oil filter is to the right get a light verry hard to see
