Engine has a rattle in it

I have a 1973 Chevy 350 engine new pistons new rods
bearings. I put a summit 1104 cam lifters in it new. New
Chevy 882 heads redone valves springs retainers locks ect.
Everything was done right and I have a rattle in it. It sounds
like the middle of the engine. It's not a knock or louder than
that its sounds like a bolt or nut rattling around inside but I
know that's not it. Any ideas I'm ready to give up?

Hearing your problem brings back some old school days. Friend of mine sold me a 600 holly carburetor double pumper installed it on my 69 Pontiac firebird after installing had the same noise like a nut or bolt rattling in engine after removing heads come to find out a small little bolt must have dropped in the carburetor before installing it. After starting the bolt dropped into one of the cylinders and was bouncing around in the cylinder when vehicle was running. I know that is not what you want to hear but that is what happened to me.

that is a ruff one with out standing there i couldn't say does it go away with throttle up down any way to change the sound

I had the problem before the heads were rebuilt. So when the heads were off I checked the Piston bores they were clean. So idk.

does it change with RPM fast slow maybe timing chain,oil pump. do you have a electric fuel pump or manual do a cylinder balance test see if it goes away with one plug wire or stays the same

It's not a loud noise just a rattling at idle you cannot here it when the rpm is up it gets louder but not really bad. I just want to pin point it and fix it its nerve racking everything in the engine is new everything! It has a mechanical fuel pump. Thanks for the answers
