2006 ford five hundred

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I just had my emission light come on on my 2006 ford five hundred and also the car starts to hesitate when you first start to take off. I had a friend check it and come the error code is P0401. He cleared the emission light, but it came back on after an hour. Does anyone really know what’s causing this problem? I been doing some homework on line, but I have all sorts of answer for the fix. Does anyone really know what the true problem is and what I should replace to fix It.?
Thanks in advance.

first i would check for a vacume leak, then have the cadalatic converter checked to see if stoped up.
That codes seems to be for "insufficient EGR flow". Some people report simply replacing the pcv valve. You should also check the vacuum lines going into the egr vale to make sure they are not clogged.
all the egr valve does is control the idle, take it to auto zone, they do a free scan it will show the code and tell what is bad.
The egr recirculates exhaust flow back through the engine, it does not control the idle.
SORRY BUD,but it (EGR) also controls the idle, try this take it off get a can of carb cleaner, spray the hell out of it in the inside, let it soke for a few minutes, work the plunger with your thumbs to see if it moves up and down, spray it again let it dry and reinstall.
How does it control the idle exactly?
it works with the IAC-idle control valve and the PCM,it is all tied together by the pcm in the computer, the EGR is not that important,in fact it can be removed and a plate put over the hole and be better off without it.I removed them from my 3 T-BIRD SUPER COUPES and they all run better, and they are supercharged engines.
Sounds like an o2 seensor which has alot to do with emisions and seam to go out all the time
