2006 Ford Five Hundred

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

So for a while now my Ford Five Hundred (Which was a terrible car, I now
know that) has been running through serpentine belts like crazy. Now I have a
new one on there and this time all the pulleys are spinning like they should.
But there is still a burning smell and this morning, there was smoke coming
from the A/C compressor, I unplugged it before I put the belt on so it shouldn't
even be engaging. Can anyone help me out here?

You were probably burning through serpentine belts because one or more pulleys were locked up, a simple check would have revealed that at the time of replacing the first belt. Assuming it was the AC pulley, which appears to have been the culprit, finally burned out it's clutch so it can once again spin freely, you should remove the belt and confirm it's indeed spinning freely. The 500 is a good car, but like any vehicle it needs maintenance.
