CHECK ABS and VSA, engine light and airbag lights all came on, then car stalled?

Asked by Barbh2001 Jul 31, 2014 at 03:54 PM about the 2005 Honda CR-V

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

While driving, my VSA, ABS, Airbag, engine and oil lights came on. Pulled over, turned
car off, turned it back on, and at first it would,nt turn over.  Waited a bit, tried again and it
started, no warning lights on. drove it again, and car felt like it was going to stall out,
brakes became hard to push.  took it to dealer, and now after two test drives, problem is
not happening.  Any idea what is wrong?  Car is 2005 Honda CRV.

3 Possibilities. (Troubleshoot) 1. Test battery (sounds like alternator not charging battery) While you are at it, clean your battery terminals! 2. Have alternator checked 3. Check wires & plugs if first 2 are 100% perfect. Bad wires may cause a car to stall but should not cause lights to turn on... That is usually battery or alternator. As always we advise you to go to a trusted Honda Authorized Dealer with OEM parts if there are any issues with Battery or Alternator. If ALL lights on dashboard lit up "like a Christmas Tree" without seeing car, most likely we have experienced number 1 or 2. GOOD LUCK with you Honda CRV!

My wife has the same problem (2006). I found something online about changing the oil - did it and it works. Assume there is a sensor that gets messed up when the oil breaks down. As long as we change the oil every 3 months - no issues. If we don't, it happens again (lights and then stalls). Not the actual fix but a reasonable work around as we don't want to put money into the car (very high mileage now).

I know this am old thread but I couldn’t t find an easy answer anywhere so I’ll post this in case someone needs it. The most likely culprit is you VTEC solenoid spool valve. It’s either clogged or not engaging so the rocker arms are stuck in the on or off position. This spits a P2646 code on OBD II.

I believe I have this figured out for most. My throttle positioning sensor went bad. It had a hairline crack in it. Paid 200 for the unit and took me 30 minutes to change on a 2006 CRV. Honda mechanic wanted 1500 to fix this.

MY 2005 CRV does the bucking (and stops my ability to accelerate) owners manual or video states to pull over and shut car off then it takes three days of driving to reset the lights. The ABS and VSA and engine light come on. I was told to add D3 brake fluid and it helped....for awhile. now its doing it again. i had the VSA disconnected. Not only does it buck ...it shuts down my ability to accelerate! and I'm always at speeds of 55 or above when this happens! Twice I almost caused major accidents on the Walt Whitman and Ben Franklin Bridges that i frequently use. Now I'm no longer comfortable driving on highways

Also,i tried to get a reading of errors and it does have the rocker arm error show up. As someone mentioned above. Trying to go over 30 mph is what the stability assist system is preventing and causes the bucking. if you're driving over 50 mph or so the stability assist shuts down the vehicle acceleration to below 30 mph (or perhaps it has something to do with the automatic gears but it's definitely a safety issue.

I have the same issue with my 2005 crv! basically, it takes 3 days for lights on dash to reset. It's something that happens everytime i go over 50 -60 mph. the car stops me from accelerating and quickly drops my speed down to below 30 mph and if i try to accelerate it starts bucking (that going to stall feeling) ive read so many articles and you tube videos have quick fixes but none that are permanent. like add oil or brake fluis and the rocker arm error and its the vehicle stability assist thats causing it. etc but it's definitely a common issue.
