Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hi everyone. My 2002 s10 with the 4.3L
cranks but doesnt start. I changed the
distributor cap and rotor with ac delco
ones. With starting fluid, it runs for a
second then dies(once its burned through
the starting fluid). This tell me I have
spark(right?)but no fuel. I can hear the
pump prime when I turn the key. No check
engine codes(I have a basic scanner). Any
ideas?  Thanks!

If you think the fuel pump is working, then replace the fuel filter. Be very careful when using the starter fluid, a friend suffered minor burns when he started a fire in the engine compartment.

The pump can for sure be heard priming. If the fuel filter needs to be changed would that be due to a clog? Truck has about 100k miles and probably has never been changed(im the second owner). Thanks for your help!

I would change the fuel filter fast. That may be your problem.

Will do that tomorrow morning! Reading online, some people reccommend tryning to blow through it to see ifbits clogged. Any opinions on if thIs this a legitimate test or not? Thanks again!

After you have the filter removed, just purchase a new one. Why keep a fuel filter that has been in service for over 100k miles?

It will be replaced regardless, just curious about if thats a legit test of not. More knowledge for next time!

You can do it if you have no other alternative and must replace the same filter, however, particles trapped inside can become loose and reach the injection system, creating more problems. Hope you can fix the problem.

Did a fuel pressure test, and the MOST fuel pressure i can get at the fuel rail “guage port” is about 8psi. It should be up near 60, as i have the “w” engine. Looks to be the fuel pump is the issue. It hold at 8, but cant go higher even with turning the key on and off(without starting the engine).

Yes, with such low pressure the engine will starve for fuel.

S-10 will LeBron is long as your sprain started fluid in the throttle body up until it fills up to the fuel filter also show the fuel pump feels up to the fuel filter it will not go past it is it possible my fuel line is stopped because once the throttle body the line fills up it backfires and throw spider out what it does that you can do it again and it starts right up

that's exactly what mine does soon as it fills up with starting fluid it backfires fire and then all sudden it'll start right back up until you fill it up again and the pumps working too but it will not go past the fuel filter
