Did you check voltage and ground, anywhere? At the proper fuses did you check for voltage. Even if the fuse is good if no voltage on the circuit, the circuit is still dead. Use a test light or digital multimeter to check for voltage. Did you check proper color wires to and from brake switch for voltage? Where applicable, is the high-mount brake lamp out as well as lower brake lites?

It also has some white smoke from the tail pipe when it first starts up...any idea what could be going on there?

Usually white smoke means coolant getting into combustion chamber? Are you losing coolant? In cold weather there will be some smoke till the exhaust warms up. Just my opinion.

If not external coolant leak then look for internal. Any coolant in the oil? Maybe a head gasket problem or intake gasket?
